Abstract
The aim of this essay is to describe the historical context that contributed to the fact that Portuguese physician Igncio Caetano Afonso Po, born in Portuguese India (XVIII century), had both knowledge of conventional medicine (taught by physicians from Portugal) and Ayurveda (taught by natives Indians) that allowed him to heal his patients more effectively.
