Abstract
Advances in modern engine development are becoming more and more challenging. Piston ring frictional losses account for approximately 20 % of the total mechanical losses in modern internal combustion engine. Reduction in piston ring friction would therefore result in neither efficiency, lower fuel consumption and reduce emission.
