Cinacalcet-Induced Insomnia in Two Patients with End-Stage Renal Disease: A Case Report

Abstract
Insomnia is defined as a lack of satisfaction with sleep quality or quantity and is related to difficulty initiating or sustaining sleep and early-morning wake up with disability returning to sleep. We report cases of insomnia in two patients with a medical history of end-stage renal disease after a short period of initiating cinacalcet for them secondary hyperthyroidism. They reported troublesome symptoms of insomnia unresolved by the suggested trial of behavioral therapies. And the complete resolution of the symptoms only achieved by holding the offending agent. These cases emphasize the need for focusing on the neurological and psychological adverse effects profile of cinacalcet. Slower dosing titration regimen of cinacalcet advised in patients with renal failure. warned from the self-treatment by the patients if they don't get proper medical consultation, they may fall in substance abuse.
