Abstract
Neural tube defects (NTDs) are common complex congenital malformations of the central nervous system resulting from failure of the neural tube closure. Early findings and management provides the best result. The neural tube defects result in physical and intellectual disability to paralysis, urinary and bowel control problems, lack of consciousness, and in many cases death or experience serious disability. Different diagnostics tests for Neural tube defects were invented to treat with this condition. Prenatal ultrasound imaging, fetal magnetic resonance imaging, maternal serum alpha feto protein and amniocentesis help to identify the neural tube defects. Surgical treatments usually help to correct abnormalities in the skull and face. A review contains the current practicing for identifying the NTDs.
