Abstract

The main purpose of this study was to assess the factors that affect the use of Mobile banking in Tanzania. The specific objectives of this study were to assess the influence of users perceived risk on the use of M- banking in Tanzania, and examine the effect of network coverage on the use of M-banking in Tanzania. This study employed a case study design using qualitative and quantitative approach. The population of the study was 4015 and samples of 150 respondents were used in this study. The study used questionnaire and interview in data collection. From the 150 questionnaires that were distributed, 120 were successfully returned but only 100 were usable for the analysis yielding a 66.7 % response rate. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. The analysis of the data was done with the help of the SPSS and Microsoft excel. The findings reveal that users perceived risks, lack of trust, security risks and poor network coverage are the key factors that negatively influenced the level of use of m-banking service. Security policy positively influenced the use of m-banking services. The study recommends the government and other stake holders to invest more on m-banking services and direct more effort on its security in order safeguard outside attacks on m- banking transaction in Tanzania.
