Abstract
This study analyzed the sufferings of seafarers and their families in the Philippines. Being away from each other for a long period of time, the seafarers and their loved ones have suffered from emotional and psychological stresses such as, pain, boredom and despair. Employing Arthur Schopenhauers concepts of the suffering of the world, the researchers showed that the experiences of pain, boredom, and despair among seafarers and their families stemmed from their desires of happiness and satisfaction to their families.
