Abstract
The rite of initiation prepares the girl or boy for adult life. The Bemba people have always believed that adulthood is stymied by the different vital problems humanity experiences. To do this, boys as well as girls must be prepared to face this life during this adult period which is longer than any of them. The boy must be prepared to keep his future family as a caretaker and the girl to run the house. These two must be mutually prepared to handle their marriage.
