Abstract
The transmission line towers in the coastal and industrial belts do face aggressive environments all over the world. It is in these areas that problems of deterioration of concrete are causing concern in most of the countries. Further environmental pollution in metropolitan cities has increased steeply in recent years and it is accelerating the deterioration of concrete. Experience encountered in each and every one of the failure and renovation of transmission line tower foundation across the world seem to be unique. Literatures available in this field are very rare and scarce and the corrosion phenomenon in the transmission line tower foundations are only least understood. Hence based on the review of available literatures and case study conducted in the state of Tamil Nadu, India, an attempt has been made to explain he Corrosion mechanism in transmission line tower foundations. Also methodologies for repairing the corroded transmission line tower foundation have been discussed.
