Abstract
In an electrical power system, a load with low power factor draws more current than a load with higher power factor for the same amount of useful power transferred. Power supplies with power factor correction (PFC) are becoming necessary for much industrial purpose to meet harmonic regulation and good power quality. Nonlinear loads such as rectifiers, distort the current waveform from the system. In such cases active or passive power factor correction may be used to counteract the distortion and raise the power factor. Linear loads with low power factor can be corrected with a passive network of capacitors or inductors. Bridgeless single phase DC-DC active power factor correction for rectifier based BOOST topology is described. Peak current control method is being used. Simulation is done for both open loop and closed loop system and the power factor obtained in closed loop system is better when compared to open loop system. Also by doing power factor correction, the power factor of the closed loop system is brought nearer to unity.
