Abstract
Anemia during pregnancy is very common. More than one-quarter of the worlds population is anemic. Growth of the fetus is intricately linked with that of placenta, because placenta helps in transfer of nutrients and oxygen from mother to fetus. Placenta is a focus of increasing interest because significant pathology afflicts the placenta, often before affecting the fetus.
