Economic Globalization and the Manobo Peoples? Struggle for Social Justice

In this paper, I argue that the Manobos, being members of the Indigenous Peoples (IPs) in the Philippines, and as one of the most neglected and disrespected social groups in the country that have been subjected to exploitation, oppression, killings and land grabbing by the local and foreign companies engaged in mining and logging businesses and other forms of economic activity that affect the community of the indigenous people, the most that they could do is to struggle for the recognition of their human rights, ancestral domain, livelihood and freedom. Following Honneth in his theory of the struggle for recognition, I will attempt to show that the Manobos feelings of injustice and disrespected by the agents of globalization drive them to struggle for social justice.
