Abstract

Most organizations fail to perform optimally due to poor management of inventory under their custody. Inventory and information are the key drivers of the supply chain of which the former is the lubricant of the supply chain whereas the later presents the management with the opportunity to make supply chains more responsive and efficient. The study was conducted in Nakuru County on the determinants of successful implementation of inventory management information system in the public sector between 23rd to 30th May 2014. Training, Lean Management, Management support and Business Process Re-engineering were identified as the key variables that guided the study. The general objective of the study was to establish the factors influencing the successful implementation of inventory management information system in the public sector in Kenya. The study revealed that there was a very strong relationship between the study variables and the implementation of IMIS in Nakuru County. The study relied on survey design to guide in the research where all employees of Nakuru County were targeted for inclusion in the study. Questionaires were used to collect data from the respondents. The study therefore recommends that organizations should put in place proper Inventory Management Practices to ensure that implementation objectives are achieved and there is need to align operating procedures to IMIS operation requirements.
