Abstract
In the traditional Hmar society, the practice of slavery was very common. However, with the advent of the British colonial power along with Christianity, the institution of bawi (slave) system was finally abolished in 1927 by the British Parliament, which had a far reaching impact upon the socio-economic and politico-jural domain of the Hmar society.
