Abstract
Congestion severely affects the performance of a wireless sensor network in two aspects increased data loss and reduced lifetime. This paper addresses these problems by introducing a mobile sink for congestion avoidance and lifetime maximization in wireless sensor networks. Also, in the proposed scheme data only has to travel a limited number of hops to reach the mobile sink which helps to improve the energy consumption of the sensor nodes. We have considered various parameters like packet delay, packet loss and throughput for evaluation. Through simulation we show effectiveness of the proposed scheme in terms of congestion avoidance and increased lifetime of the wireless sensor network.
