Abstract
Measurement of velocity within packed bed is required for different industrial process. Thus it is important to know the velocity profile within packed bed. The packed bed is a vertical column filled with packing materials which posses the interaction of fluid with packing material. If the velocity distribution is correctly known to us then, the design of thermal and mass transport system become easily possible. Hence, in this paper the different methods used for the measurement of velocity profile in packed bed has been reviewed. And it has been found that the velocity profile in packed bed is not as of same nature as it shows in empty pipe. The velocity is not maximum near the centre but somewhat nearer to the wall and this due to bed voidage and wall channeling.
