Abstract
The electric drive systems used in industrial applications are increasingly required to meet higher performance and reliability requirements. Purpose of motor speed controller is to take a signal representing the required speed and to drive a motor at that speed. In this paper we have suggested an Embedded based system, consisting of a DC Motor, an infrared sensor and a microcontroller. Here we have used pulse width modulation (PWM) or duty-cycle variation method, which are commonly used in speed control of DC motors. The PWM makes possible the use of microcontroller to drive the motor, which gives enormous versatility. This paper provides a platform for further advancement in the field of industrial use of DC motors. DC motors have speed control capabilities which means that speed, torque and even direction of rotation can be changed at any time to meet a new condition.
