Abstract
The present study has been carried out to see the effect of mixed industrial effluent collected from Okhla Industrial Area phase-II, New Delhi-110025, India on seed germination and growth of the Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus). The Okra seeds were placed on the petri-dishes lined with cotton and covered with filter paper for seed germination and earthen pots were used for recording the plant growth after treating with different concentration of effluents viz controlled (0 %), 25 %, 75 %, 100 %. Germination percentage of seeds was recorded highest at 25 % concentration of effluent. The plant growth also recorded highest at 25 % concentration of the effluent. The study reveals that the germination of seeds and growth of the plants gradually declined with the increasing concentration of the effluent. The study suggests that the effluent may be used for agricultural purposes if proper dilution is taken up.
