Abstract
Apprehensions about the therapeutic efficacy and safety of synthetic drugs fuel the research to discover holistic remedies. The antioxidant effect of methanolic extract of Lawsonia inermis leaves (MELIL) -sitosterol have been investigated against the in-vitro oxidant systems by using 2, 2- diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), hydroxyl radical, superoxide anion, FRAP (ferric reducing antioxidant power) and nitric oxide assays. The results obtained clearly shows that -sitosterol exerts significant antioxidant effect across all the studied oxidant systems.
