Abstract
WLANs play a vital role in 4th Generation (4G) cellular system due to its adaptability and mobility. The most important issue in wireless communication networks to provide seamless handoff. Handoff delay make of serious problem as a lot of research has been done in last few years to reduce the handoff delay incurred in the different level of wireless communication. The whole delay time of a handoff process is isolated into authentication, probe and re association delay time. So this paper reviews the brief description about the distinct handoff techniques used in wireless networks and analyze their merits and demerits. Some future research ideas are also suggested here.
