Abstract
High strength and light weight boom structure is the main challenge for manufacturers to design a telescopic boom for mobile cranes. Crane booms work in fully retracted positions and fully extended positions. Normally the crane booms perform better in case when the boom is retracted but when the boom is extended than the load carrying capacity of boom decreases. As the distance between the nearer point on crane and load point increases the load carrying capacity decreases. Crane boom works at greater heights when the crane boom achieves maximum achievable boom angle. In the present work the stress analysis of crane boom and its parts is done using the manual calculations using SAE J1078 standard. The crane boom should have light weight and high strength so in this present work the different crane boom sections will be compared.
