Abstract
Motivation/Background:Management directives form the basis on whichmanagement prescriptions are set. The directives range from the general onesat global level to the local site-speciβic level. The current paper presents man-agement directives of a forest management plan for implementation of a pilotREDD+ project for Masito Community Forest Reserve, Kigoma, Tanzania for theperiod 2012-2017.Method:The work mainly involved review of relevant documents enrichedby discussions with project management. The directives were also discussedat a forest management planning workshop that involved members from thecommunity-based organization that managed the target forest.Results:The results are organized under sections for (1) global initiatives,policy statements and directives - focusing on the REDD+ strategy; (2) nationalinitiatives, policy statements and directives. This focuses on national forestpolicy support for community based forest management and national REDD+framework and strategy. (3) Management objectives and their managementtools, which focus on statement of objectives, forest management zones andforest management unitsConclusions:The management directives formed the basis for the activitiesplanned for the forest for 2012-2017. Also, the management directives shouldbe used as baseline information for assessment of achievement of the plannedactivities.
