Abstract
With 27 million cases worldwide documented in 2006, Alzheimer’s disease (AD) constitutes an overwhelming health, social, economic and political problem to all nations. Till a new drug is found to combat the disease completely the no. of people suffering from this disease may rise up to 107million by 2050. So far, the therapeutic treatment of one compound-one target system has failed. This is attributed to the various pathogenic mechanisms that characterize AD. With success in the fields of treatment of chronic diseases like HIV and Cancer where multiple drugs complementarily treat the problem, it is being widely considered to replace one compound-one target therapy with a new approach called as Multiple Target Ligand (MTL) approach. This approach explores the possibility of treatment with a single compound that treats multiple targets. This review explores the recent advances in the field of MTDL.
