Abstract
Surface engineering refers to a comprehensive field of cost effective technologies that aim to design and modify the surface properties of components in order to reduce the deterioration over time. Surface engineering techniques are used to develop several functional mechanical and chemical properties. This is accomplished by making the surface robust to the environment in which it will be used. This paper covers several surface engineering techniques used to protect metal surfaces.
