Abstract

Foodborne Diseases (DTA) are caused by consuming contaminated water and food. Contamination can occur in any food handling environment if appropriate measures are not taken. However, the consumer can avoid the consumption of contaminated food if gets necessary information about food safety. Therefore, it requires investigate the knowledge of the population regarding the development of diseases by contaminated foods. The objective of the study was to analyze the knowledge of consumers about foodborne diseases caused by consumption outside their houses. 100 people were interviewed from 19 to 60 years of age, through a structured questionnaire. It was observed that 61% of people interviewed were female, and 92% had meals outside their houses. The frequency of meals outside home was once or twice a week and it was indicated by 41% of consumers. To highlight, 81% of thepeople interviewed reported understanding the meaning of the foodborne diseases. All things considered, despite the knowledge of consumers, it is possible to analyze that still exists, among consumers, gaps of information that pose a risk to eat safety. As it can be analyzed, consumers need to be informed about contamination to reduce outbreaks from foodborne diseases.
