Abstract
The present study seeks to establish an association between the occurrence of abnormal Brachial Ankle Index and the presence of Systemic Arterial Hypertension, as well as to evaluate if blood pressure control interferes with changes in this index. The samplewas random andconsisted of 60 patients over 40 years old treated at the Cardiology Outpatient Clinic of the Santa Casa de Misericórdia Hospital in Vitoria from June 2018 to June 2019.Information was collected on socio economic profile, health, life and ITB measurement. The analysis performed in this study consists of the exploration of the data using descriptive and inferential statistics. The study results showed normal ABI in 85% of the interviewed patients and 8.3% altered ABI, all of them hypertensive. The conclusion was a statistical association between altered ABI and coronary artery disease as well as stratification of increased cardiovascular risk. In addition, systolic blood pressure values can be correlated with peripheral obstructive arterial disease
