Abstract

We encounter some examples of Turkish-Islamic geography's written literature on tombstones as well. Especially in Balkans, a geographic civilisation that is created by taking Istanbul as the centre/example, there are various tombstones to come across, despite the fact that many of them have been destroyed. Although some of these tombstones have pattern sentences that are also seen in their Anatolian/Istanbul counterparts, there are also authentic examples with unique content and expressions.Tombstones, which are emphasised by numerous writers and researchers such as Yahya Kemal Beyatli and Salih Asim Bey when they explain the notion of “homeland”, should also be examined with different approaches as sources of language and literature. When tombstones in Balkan region are examined, it is seen that they are not only valuable with their stonemasonry or historical values. Turkish on these tombstones, each one of which is a work of art, are as much valuable as the Turkish observed in the works of authors such as Omer Osman Erendoruk, Rahmi Ali, Necati Zekeriya and Zeynel Beksaç in terms of Balkan Turkish literature.
