Abstract

The Treaty of Lausanne led to the arrival of people as well as a great number of documents belonging to Muslim communities from different regions of Greece. These documents have been placed in the Istanbul Regional Directorate Archive which is affiliated to the Directorate General of Foundations. A small volume of documents has been classified, and many documents have been stored without being classified. However, Document Lists and Index Books prepared during the population Exchange also provide information about documents that are not classified. Among the various documents brought from Greece, there are eighty-six volumes of the Kadı records that belong to the Province of Thessaloniki. These registers complement the three hundred and thirty-seven volumes of Kadı records preserved in Thessaloniki. Most of these books belong to the 19th and 20th centuries. These records, which have been found out from the catalogue book that was prepared during the population exchange, have not yet been opened to researchers and continue to be classified.
