Fundamentals of "Polycentricity" and "Polycentric Development"

The paper presents the concepts of Polycentricity and polycentric development and explores the arguments whether they are useful in devising spatial plans/ strategies. Firstly, it brings the concept of Polycentricity and how is it perceived at intra-urban, inter-urban and inter-regional scales. Further, it also presents the concepts of polycentric development and polycentric urban regions. Lastly, this paper explains how these concepts are useful in reducing regional disparities with a special focus on spatial development plans.
