STUDY ON EFFECT OF MEDITATION ON INDIVIDUAL’S PERFORMANCE AT WORKPLACE

Abstract
Meditation and Yoga have been part of Indian life style for centuries. A sincere practice of meditation makes the mind to think and make decision effectively at workplace and educational institutions. It has been published in the scientific journals in several parts of the globe. For some reason, meditation and/yoga have not been taken into consideration in the global companies, specifically in Information Technology industry. The reason is that they have hectic schedules at workplace to deliver the services/products in a faster pace due to the competition in the global market. The instant response from the workforce to practice meditation is lack of time because of the work conditions. It creates so much stress which in turn af ects the health both physically and mentally. This health condition shows impact on the job performance of those individuals at workplace which cascades to the team performance. A healthy mind can create better productivity at workplace. Employees of IT industry of all age groups do not find time to relax and this impacts the teamwork as well. Organizations have been working with several experts to address this issue and bringing in innovative programs to keep their workforce health in safe North America and Europe countries had identified meditation as a solution to address these stress conditions which can be practiced without much effort for sitting postures and flexibility in the place to practice. Across the globe including India also has realized to bring in the practice of meditation back in. The objective of this study is to identify the effect of meditation in IT company with participants at dif erent age groups and job roles, which includes the junior to senior. It also records the impact on both professional and personal lives. Some of the common problems addressed are emotional management, poor time management, have better sleep cycles, and improved learning capabilities. This also has made better focus which in turn improved concentration. The enhanced mental strength has made more enthusiastic which is the core element in taking initiatives fearlessly. The top management of the organizations recommended meditation practices for their teams and enjoyed the long-term benefits for the individuals, which significantly improved quality of their deliverables at workplace along with the interpersonal relationships.
