Abstract

The article has been devoted to the problem of creation an educational environment for Roma children in Slovakia. It has been analyzed the statistical data, which reveal the multi-dimensional problems of this ethnic community. The state of this problem has been presented in two cities of the Slovak Republic, where children of Roma nationality study. Attention is drawn to the fact that unsatisfactory living conditions have a negative impact on the ability to use their right to education. It has been found that in the Slovak Republic, Roma children are still disproportionately sent to special schools and classes for children with a mental retardation and learning difficulties or subjected to segregation in secondary schools. This problem is also related to a number of other factors: attending children, taking hygiene habits, forming a culture of behavior and communication, combating harmful habits, insufficient level of theoretical and practical training of future specialists to work with Roma children in higher education institutions, inadequate level of their interethnic tolerance, lack of knowledge about the ethno-specific characteristics of this group of people and the skills of interaction with the families of students. The author has noted that the Slovak Government assumed responsibility and began to promote, protect and implement the right for education of Roma children. The authorities are taking all measures to ensure that their settlements remain segregated and disadvantaged in the past.
