Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of the main tendencies in the development of professional pedagogical education in Transcarpathia in the period when it was part of the Austrian-Hungarian monarchy during World War I. Educational documents are analysed that regulated educational processes on Transcarpathian lands. Special attention is paid to Law ХХХVIII (of 1868) – an important educational document that influenced the development of pedagogical institutions, determined the content of pedagogical education and regulated the functioning of these establishments. The Law gave right to churches and even private citizens to open and maintain teacher-training seminaries provided the educational establishments met the state requirements. According to the Law teacher-training seminaries became independent special educational establishments with a three-year term of studies. In 1869 on the basis of the Law ХХХVІІІ the first syllabus for teacher-training seminaries was published and it was valid till 1877. The content of pedagogical education is analysed (syllabi and curricula for junior school teacher training establishments). The author pays special attention to the issue of training pedagogues in the region. Junior school teachers in the period under analysis were trained in two teacher-training seminaries: in Uzhhorod (for boys and girls) that belonged to Mukachevo Greek Catholic eparchy and the state teacher-training seminary that was opened in Mukachevo in 1914. Mukachevo Hungarian royal state people's teacher-training seminary taught only boys. The first graduation of qualified pedagogical specialists was in 1918. Thus, the establishment and development of professional pedagogical education in Transcarpathia in the second half of ХІХ – early ХХ century occurred in the context of the educational processes of the time. The conducted research does not cover all aspects of the establishment and development of professional pedagogical education in Transcarpathia. Perspective areas of further scientific researches include the study of the influence of systematic transformational processes on the development of pedagogical education in different historical periods in Transcarpathia, critical re-thinking of its consequences, and possible use in modern educational practice.
