Motivasi Pembayaran Zakat Pendapatan: Satu Analisis Kualitatif

Zakat on income is one of the types of zakat that must be paid by Muslims that possess the requirements of nisab and haul. National and several state fatwas in Malaysia have made it compulsory to pay zakat on income to those who are eligible to do so. Nevertheless, the collection of zakat on income shows that there are still many who have not fulfilled their obligation to pay zakat on income. To increase the collection of zakat on income, this study is conducted to identify factors that drive the payment of zakat on income. For the purpose of this study, interviews involving six (6) zakat on income contributors in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur are conducted to find out the reasons that motivate them to pay zakat on income. The results of the study found five (5) main themes that motivate a Muslim to pay zakat on income that includes performing duties as a Muslim, the blessing of sustenance, influence from the surrounding, a sense of responsibility in helping the needy and the ease of payment of zakat on income. Thus, several recommendations have been proposed to increase the collection of zakat on income and number of zakat payers.
