Abstract
This paper analyses the successful turnaround achieved by Tempel, India. The company faced multiple challenges such as dwindling topline, high overhead costs, constrained working capital, and most importantly, lack of motivation and lack of alignment of personnel towards a unified organizational goal. This study explores how the leadership successfully managed a quick but sustained turnaround process which they term “Exit to expansion”. Based on interviews with the company leadership and after reviewing data, this paper narrates the strategic framework established and followed, actions taken and the results achieved. This strategic framework termed by the Leadership of the organization as “4C” s (Customer, Cost, Cash and Culture in that order) has helped the company effect a turnaround quickly, effectively and sustainably. The case study presented can be applied in other organizations that are seeking a turnaround in their businesses as well.
