Abstract
Apical periodontitis is a multifactorial process characterized by the dynamic encounter between microbial factors and host defense. The size and characterisation of bone loss depends on the microbial load, defense mechanism of the host and a balance between pro and anti- inflammatory mediators. Cytokines play a pivotal role in inflammatory and immune responses of bone.
