APOCALYPTIC SYMBOLS OF THE BOOK OF REVELATION IN THE INTERPRETATION OF TERTULLIAN

Abstract
The article examines the interpretation of the Book of Revelation by the western theologian Tertullian. The specifics of the interpretation of the symbols of the Book of Revelation and theological concepts of the latin exegete are highlighted. The hermeneutic principles of interpretation of the biblical apocalyptic and Tertullian's view on the fulfillment of prophecies are studied. It is established that Tertullian used a tropological and allegorical method of interpretation. In the first place Tertullian put the spiritual and moral meaning of the biblical text. The importance of the Old Testament texts in the interpretation of the Book of Revelation is pointed out and the shortcomings of excessive allegory. Prospective for further research is clarify the influence of Tertullian's eschatological views on the work of later theologians.
