Abstract

Mastering the demand of energy constitute an objective set by Cameroon in the recent years, in order to face the multiple difficulties experienced by this sector and to be part of the new global situation. The building sector, considered as one of the biggest energy consumer, is therefore at the heart of much energetic efficiency strategy. The objective of this work is to present the real situation in terms of energetic performance of our public buildings, which for the greatest majority are old and tumbledown. After presenting the state of the energy balance sheet of the building sector at the national level, the results of the energy audits carried out on three (03) public buildings were presented, including the audit approach used. Analyses of the results were focused on the assessment of a number of indicators related to the energy consumption of the buildings (lighting, air conditioning, etc.), and data from electricity bills. In conclusion, the analyses carried out show us that the recent constructions consume less energy (IE New = 30% IEA old). The same observation was made with the renovation of old buildings (IE Ancient renovated = 54% IEA old). This trend is partly justified by the technological and architectural evolution that this sector has experienced for nearly two (02) decades.
