Abstract

Clothing manufacturers in Bangladesh are known around the world for theirlow prices. As a destination for clothing sourcing from foreign retailers, it offerslow labor costs and a large pool of human resources. This makes Dhaka a sourc-ing hub for global apparel buyers and retailers. Major clothing retailers in topurban destinations across the Western Hemisphere exclusively display theseproducts in front of their customers. In an effort to develop a theoretical frame-work to explain Bangladesh's retail industry, three main theories can be out-lined. Essentially, thesetheoriesproposethatasaresultofexternalforces(suchas environment or conβlict), a retail institution will develop into another typeor a new type will develop because of a need, conβlict, or other factors. Whenexplaining the international expansion of Bangladeshi retailers, we intended tolook at three speciβic theoretical frameworks ie; Environmental theory, Cycli-cal theory and Conβlict theory. The article has gone through available liter-atures to establish relationships between there interrelated theories and jus-tify their selection to explain the evolution and expansion of retail industry inBangladesh.
