Abstract
The rapid development of technology and society's economy with the existence of industrial, agricultural and urban activities generate waste resulting in a significant increase in water pollution. In addition, other pollution due to anthropogenic materials such as heavy metal pollution in water is a serious problem and requires special attention because it is toxic and heavy metal accumulation occurs in humans and animals, this can threaten ecosystems and public health. The purpose of this study was to design an adsorbent column with variations in the height of the adsorbent bed and column diameter by determining the height of the bed (adsorbent) and the diameter of the column in absorbing Cu metal. The experimental method was carried out through 4 stages including 1) Designing a metal adsorbent device; 2) Preparation of crab shells; 3) Preparation of standard solution of CuSO4; 4) Analysis The results obtained from the design of heavy metal adsorbent with crab shell height as adsorbent and column diameter, are designed to be able to absorb Cu maximally. In testing the performance of the heavy metal Cu adsorbent, the bed height was 10 cm and a diameter of 1 inch. Crab shells are suitable for use as Cu. ion adsorbent because it can produce water according to the established standards.
