Role of Information Technology in Education: Obstacles in EdTech in India - A Study

During this global Corona pandemic, no country has been able to continue the usual, conventional education system. As per UNESCO 157 crores learners have been affected through the closure of the schools and colleges due to the Covid lockdown. As a result this has created an adverse impact on the entire world. The entire human race has become majorly dependant on information technology to run everyday life, business, communication government administration education etc. Presently the entire education system of the world is being conducted through virtual means using information technology. The continuous advancement and development of information technology not only modernised the education system but also helped to continue it to survive in this crisis situation. But it is also true that the infrastructure to use and avail this technology differs from advanced countries to backward ones. In this context situation in India is noteworthy. As per UNESCO report almost 32 crores learners from all levels in India were affected due to lockdown but because of advanced information technology infrastructure could tide over the crisis situation. So, this paper is focussed on the various usages of information technology, different educational tools, innovation, distance e-learning, various digital contents and applications and how these are enriching the education system. We have also tried to assess the obstacles in this field in the Indian scenario. Moreover we have discussed briefly how the educational institutions and students along with government are working for the expansion of technology based education system to all sections of society particularly the underprivileged.
