Abstract
Lipid abnormalities are well known etiological factors in cardiovascular disorders and other systemic disorders due to atherosclerotic effects. Lifestyle and behavioural factors positively contribute to the modification of lipid profile, which suggests that personality traits might have some association with lipid profile. The study found high Extroversion was associated with a low level of serum High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL). Low Agreeableness was associated with a higher level of Total Cholesterol (TC), Triglycerides (TG), Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL) and Very Low-Density Lipoprotein (VLDL). Low Conscientiousness was associated with a high level of TC and LDL. Low Neuroticism was associated with a high level of LDL. The findings present an interesting insight into the possible substrate of human behaviour at biochemical levels.
