ADAPTIVE APPROACHES TO THE MANAGEMENT OF EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS IN THE PROCESS OF PROVIDING ONLINE EDUCATION

Abstract
Introduction. The article is concerned with the aspects of «Adaptive Leadership» that are most commonly used by online education leaders in universities where online education plays an important role in enrollment. The paper studies the current state of higher education and the main changes in the financial, technological and competitive environment. It is discussed ways of solving problems in the context of higher education. A number of problems are considered including the rising cost of higher education, state support reduction for public institutions, declining of regional hegemony caused by technological progress, increasing competition for students, and student demand for greater flexibility and services. Purpose. The purpose of this study is to analyze adaptive approaches to the management of educational institutions during the transformation of the system of providing educational services. Methods. The study is based on the analysis and generalization of normative documentation and scientific articles, comparison, systematization and description of educational experience. Results. It presented the reality that many institutional leaders are turning to online education as a way to improve their institution's financial prospects. The challenges of introducing online education were considered, as well as the assumptions and expectations of today's online learners, and also their impact on institutional infrastructure, policies and processes. Originality. The article provides the theory of adaptive leadership, and discussed its applicability to the changing world of higher education. Emergent themes and commonalities in leadership approaches and descriptions were identified and analyzed in the context of adaptive leadership. Based on this analysis, a clearer understanding of the adaptive leadership approaches that are used for change in educational institutions is derived. Conclusion. The analysis showed that online leaders in higher education today use adaptive leadership approaches when they are deal with complex challenges that involve both technological and interpersonal transformation. Online leaders who successfully motivate change use the trust cycle as an ongoing and important component of their efforts. They also use adaptive leadership behaviors when they deal with complex adaptive challenges that are a common component of the online leader's responsibility in large public, research institutions and universities.
