METHODS OF FORMING THE SPELLING COMPETENCE OF FUTURE PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS

Abstract

Introduction. The article notes the importance of language training for pedagogical university students at the present stage of the higher education modernization in Ukraine. It is noted that after the approval of the new edition of «Ukrainian Spelling», the issues of students' language skills, improving their spelling literacy, and developing skills in communicative and appropriative use of language tools in different life and professional, pedagogical situations have become especially relevant. The purpose of the article is to describe the methods of forming the spelling competence of future primary school teachers of the New Ukrainian School. Methods. To solve the tasks the following research methods were used: theoretical methods: analysis and synthesis in the processing of linguistic, pedagogical and methodological literature on the problem; theoretical conceptualization and generalization of the philologists' experience to determinate the state of the spelling competence formation of future primary school teachers; empirical methods: observation and analysis of classes during studying the discipline «Modern Ukrainian language with a practical tasks», conversations with teachers and students. Result. As a result of the analysis of the problem, we came to the conclusion that in the context of education modernization, updating its content and structure, the methods of forming the spelling of students' competence become especially relevant, since as a result of applying innovative methods, students acquire the skills of self-knowledge, the ability to apply the obtained spelling skills in specific communicative situations. The scientific novelty of the study. The article describes the most common methods of forming orthographic and punctuation competence of pedagogical university students: the method of observing and analyzing the phenomena and fact spelling, the experimental spelling, the exercising method, the method of working with educational and scientific informational sources, the case-method, the project-method – the basic purpose, objectives and stages of the methods are determined, the examples of the certain method application on the examples of the new edition of «Ukrainian spelling» are illustrated. Conclusions and specific suggestions of the author. The author claims that the use of traditional and innovative methods of forming the spelling competence of future primary school teachers motivates students to obtain new spelling skills by searching correct ways to clarify it, encourages the processing of a large number of additional linguistic sources, and creates the desire to solve the contradiction between spelling skills and ignorance of orthogram or punctogram.
