Abstract
Chipko has been considered an environmental movement to protect the trees in the Himalayas. So far, a lot has been said about this movement and that has brought a clash of perspectives, giving rise to movement sometimes as Conservation or at times a Local or often as a Women movement. Well, the collected data tells that there is still a gap between public understandings of the ‘Chipko' as a Movement. This paper focuses on the women's perspective reflecting their initiative, coincidentally, taken in the Rainee village that brought Chipko to life.
