Abstract
This study aimed to investigate empirically the effect of classroom discussion and role-play techniques on promoting English majors' oral communicative competence. The population of this study consists of 152 second-year students majoring in English at Omdurman Ahlia University. Out of the 152 students, 148 participants were randomly chosen. Checklists and observation notes were used as instruments for data collection. The data was linguistically and statistically analyzed using the ANOVA scale. The main findings of the study indicated significant differences in second-year English majors? oral communicative competence before and after the intervention of using classroom discussion and role-play techniques.
