WORK ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS THAT IMPACT THE JOB SATISFACTION AMONG DENTAL PROFESSIONALS IN DENTAL COLLEGE & HOSPITALS

Abstract
A healthy work environment influences the level of employee job satisfaction. The aim of this research was to study the relationship between work environment and job satisfaction, the impact of work environment factors on job satisfaction and the levels of job satisfaction among the dentists. The necessary primary data from the participants was collected by survey research method through the distribution of copies of questionnaire in this study. To establish the perception of the impact of work environment on job satisfaction among the dental professionals the questionnaire was administered to 320 dentists working in twelve private dental college hospitals in Tamil Nadu, India with a response rate of 80%. Descriptive analysis was used to examine the demographic information of the respondents. Correlation analysis was used to study the relationship between work environment and job satisfaction. Regression analysis was used to determine if the work environmental factors had equal weightage in influencing the job satisfaction attitude. Chi Square test was used to find out the association between various work environmental factors in influencing the job satisfaction level. The results of the study revealed that there was a positive relationship between work environment and job satisfaction. The work environmental factors made both positive and negative impact on the job satisfaction of dentists. The overall levels of job satisfaction showed that majority of the dentists were satisfied in this study. The findings also reveal there was a significant association between the various work environmental factors in influencing the job satisfaction level among the dentists in the study. Job satisfaction is potentially an important predictor of the dental profession that provides insights regarding the issues faced by the dentists that need attention. If marked improvement is desired the policy formulators while designing plans to improve the work environment could utilize the information in this research study to increase the level of job satisfaction among the dentists in the dental sector organizations.
