Abstract
Islands were observed to beof special importance for the nation. They were found to bethrilling hotspots for tourists all over the world. These locations had its own cultural and geophysical values/importance. These spots enhance the economy of the nation. Millions of tourists from across the world visiting these islands, increases cultural and political relationship with nations of the world. To increase tourism activities in the nation, it was necessary to provide adequate infrastructures as construction of high-quality roads, buildings, hotels, resorts, airports etc. As civil engineering aspects, study and collection of technical data must be taken into account tsuch as type of soil available, depth of foundation, seismic zones methods of construction, detailed design of structural members as slab, beam, column, footings staircase, and many more other factors. This paper deals in detail, the studies with Indian Union Territorial Island “Andaman and Nicobar” for constructional and environmental considerations. Adequate safety measures were dealt as per the Indian seismic code IS -1893 -2004 as this island was placed in zone V. For high water table, observed to this Island, detail methodology was given regarding the foundation required under these conditions. Also, the details regarding the permutations and combinations of placing of pile and pile cap was mentioned. To achieve the ductility in concrete as structural, members, reinforcement details were mentioned. The concept of “Strong column and weak beam” was also dealt in this paper. Water plays vital role in construction activities. In this island the PH value of water is less than 7 which means the water is acidic. This acidic water, when used for concrete, it would be always harmful. Hence adequate measures were suggested to improve the quality of water in this paper. Another important aspect taken into account was the type of soil and its property of disintegration. Adequate measures were mentioned to minimize the losses due to frequently sliding of hills
