Abstract
KMC is acceptable to most mothers admitted in hospitals. But little is known about mothers' continued unsupervised practice after discharge from hospitals. Objectives: To study average days of practice of Community Based KMC and to explore the barriers in implementing KMC at various level in low income community Methodology- Medical Officers & Staff nurses of two Maternity wards of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, mothers of the babies who delivered in these maternity homes interviewed to identify barriers. Results and observations- Average duration of KMC at home was 4.7 days ( + 3 days). Lack of co operation of family members & baby’s discomfort were the main barriers for mother.
