TUNISIA’S DOMESTIC POLITICS AND FOREIGN POLICY FROM PRESIDENT BOURGUIBA TO PRESIDENT MARZOUKI

Tunisia’s domestic political climate continues to get a new definition; from the economic crisis to the elections, to the constant protests and sit-ins. This is due in part to the infamous Arab Springi that added a twist to Tunisia's foreign relations too, presenting a dilemma for many countries that deal with Tunisia. This paper studies the domestic politics and foreign policies of Tunisia from independence to date chronicling the period of five governments, three of which happened after the Arab Spring and how Tunisia relates regionally as a result. It does so by looking at the foreign policy determinants such as the nature of the state, the nature and interests of these governments’ leaders’ capabilities, the decision-making system they implored and lastly their perceptions and role conception in foreign policy execution.
