Abstract

The growing need to account for the challenges of low number of women among top management teams of deposit money banks in the country was what motivated this study. The study was focused on accounting for the influence of environmental and psychosocial factors on career progression of female bankers in Nigeria. Sample of 323 was used for the study. Stratified sampling method was adopted in selecting the participants for the study. The study conducted validity and reliability of the questionnaire. Ordinary least square regression was used for the analysis of the study. The study found that environmental factors significantly affect female career progression. The study also found that psychosocial factors also link significantly with female career progression. It was concluded that women need to pay close attention to their environment and their personal issues, as they are vital to drive increased career progression. The study validates the social relation theory and advances literature on the paucity of studies that accounts for ceiling that accounts for female career progression.
