Abstract

To enhance the characteristics of wastewater entering the primary sedimentation tank in WWTP, strips of polyethylene media had been applied inside feeding channel to wastewater as a pretreatment media system for decreasing organic loads entering primary sedimentation tank that improve the treatment removal efficiency of the plant. One curtain line of polyethylene strips applied to feeding channel before primary sedimentation tank to determine the removal value of this application and determine whether this application is suitable as a pretreatment or not. The BOD removal value of one line of polyethylene media in mg/l is ranged from 2 mg/l to 8 mg/l with average value 5.33 mg/l. COD removal value is ranged from 1 mg/l to 10 mg/lwith average removal value 5.44 mg/l. TDS removal value is ranged from 1 mg/l to 6 mg/l with average removal value 2.93 mg/l. To remove more loads other lines of strips were added to achieve the required quality for the effluent. The study proves the success of using the cheap media to allow forming of biofilms that enhance the characteristics of influent wastewater.
